I am as God created me. The realization of these six words is what Jesus is gently guiding us to in the Course. Aside from the reviews, this is the only lesson that is repeated in the workbook. It appears in lessons 94, 110 and 162. If you pay close attention, this message is contained in every lesson and every section of the text. Sometimes the message is what we are not so we recognize that this is what we are. Sometimes he tells us exactly what we are. It all points to these six words.
Lesson 209 in the review series “I am not a body. I am free. For I am still as God created me.” is so clear and succinct with this message:
“The Love of God is what created me. The Love of God is everything I am. The Love of God proclaimed me as His Son. The Love of God within me sets me free.” (W-209)
He doesn’t say…”Well, yes…you’re a body named “X” and you have a lot of work to do here in this world. Once you’re finished with all of that you’ll be free.”
He says…”The Love of God within me sets me free.”
He doesn’t say…”The Love of God is a part of you. It’s a little piece of who you are, but the world and its happenings are more important or just as important as this.”
He says…”The Love of God is everything I am.” EVERYTHING
He doesn’t say…”Yes, your parents had sex and voila! You were born. Your parents made you but God is definitely there too. You are their “son” first and then you are God’s Son.”
He says…”The Love of God is what created me.” “The Love of God proclaimed me as His Son.”
The ego is a thought system that is a defense against this Truth. It tells us all kinds of silly things that we personalize, place meaning on, and believe to be true for us. The ego is a little untrue idea that is meaningless.
Of course the ego will say…”Look at THIS! Look at ME! This is what you are! (insert story here).” It will say things like:
“That person did this to you and you should be really mad about it.”
“This problem with your job is unsolvable and you’ll have to suffer with it.”
“You need to work hard to survive.”
“If you really work hard you’ll get somewhere.” (Have you ever wondered where that “somewhere” is?)
“This important person in your life passed away and now your life will never be the same.”
“You need that (caffeine, alcohol, drugs, cigarettes etc) because your body is addicted to it and your body can tell you what you are. You are a victim of the body.”
“You are limited by your financial situation, body constraints, family situation, etc.”
“You should worry about the future because things could go really wrong for you.”
Notice how everything the ego says is to keep you locked into it. If I believe the future could be bad for me, what will I do but try really hard to plan to make it better? Whether I believe I can do that by saving money, planning a family, going to the doctor regularly, eating healthy…the ego doesn’t care about the details. Only that you believe that these things are important and keeps you ‘busied up’ with all of it so you don’t recognize the Truth of what you are and realize the ego isn’t anything.
Place the future in the hands of God and be in this moment now. Allow yourself to experience the holy instant and from there, you’ll know what needs to be done. You’ll be told. And then you’ll do it from the place of peace and love instead of coming from fear. It’s ok if you’re crying while asking him. It’s ok if you’re punching a wall while asking him. It doesn’t matter. Just ask.
No one is better or worse than you. We’re walking hand in hand together, side by side. Nothing outside of you can hurt you, because there is nothing outside of you. Let Him teach you these lessons every time you remember…every moment of every day. Surrender yourself to Him and trust Him to show you the Truth. We go together, you and I. Rejoice in that. Embrace that. We are so safe, so loved and so appreciated in God.
Let Jesus take you to the freedom of the Love of God. He is one with all, just as you are, so he is always there. You are the beautiful, holy, perfect Son of God. You are as God created you. There is no need to defend against this. You will sacrifice nothing and gain everything.
Blessings beautiful holy brother.

Shannon

Inspired to share with you:
Learn then, the happy habit of response to all temptation to perceive yourself as weak and miserable with these words:
I am as God created me. His Son can suffer nothing. And I am His Son.
